ABC Nashville Characters' Country Counterparts

Rayna James: Faith Hill

Rayna James’ character has been likened to Reba (perhaps for the red hair), but Faith Hill seems a more probable comparison. In the show, Rayna is a country superstar past her prime yet still trying to remain relevant (ok, that could also be Reba) but what makes her most like Faith Hill is her home life. Rayna’s husband is in the Nashville public eye much like Tim Mcgraw, Faith’s husband. And although Tim and Faith haven’t endured a cheating scandal Faith practices the good old country tradition, stand by your man, much like Rayna.

Juliette Barnes: Mindy McCready

It’s not exactly fair to peg Juliette Barnes on Taylor Swift as many people have. Besides the curly hair and auto tune references, Taylor is nothing like Miss Barnes. No, Juliette is the country singer gone bad, which is why we think she’s more like Mindy McCready. Mindy was at the top of her game, but much like Juliette, she let her home life get in the way. We’re pulling for Juliette to break through it and come out on top in the series, something Mindy has yet to do.

Deacon Claybourne: Randy Travis

Deacon Clayborne, a talented singer/songwriter struggling with love and substance abuse. Sound familiar? Randy Travis is currently struggling with many of the same issues as Deacon, although in many aspects, Randy’s got it worse. Deacon never ended up naked in a ditch after a drunken rampage – at least not that we know of so far.

Scarlett O'Connor: Kacey Musgraves

You may not be too familiar with Kacey Musgraves, but much like Scarlett O’Connor, she’ll be a star here soon! Kacey and Scarlett are both talented writers who later lent their voices to solo projects. And Kacey is a dead ringer for Scarlett’s soft spoken spirit, although Kasey’s got a good head on her shoulders. Scarlett? Well, she’s sweet.

Gunnar Scott: Charlie Worsham

Much like Kacey Musgraves, you may not know Charlie Worsham yet, but you will. He’s got the same good country looks as Gunner Scott, and boy, can he write a song! We’re pretty sure Charlie is single with no love triangles like Gunner is dealing with right now on the show, but musically, these two match up perfectly.

Avery Barkley: Eric Church

Eric Church: the bad boy of country music – kinda. He’s no Avery Barkley when it comes to cheating on his sweet girlfriend and sleeping his way to the top (we hope not at least!), but he does have a different country sound and pushes those limits musically. However, we love Erich Church; it’s hard to love Avery Barkley right now.

Sean Butler: Tim Tebow

If there’s one thing that we all can agree on, it’s that Sean Butler is Tim Tebow. In fact, it was so blatantly obvious when Sean first debuted on the show that eyes all over the country rolled in unison.
